Now don't get us wrong, we love a colourful, bejewelled nail but every now and then we like to mix it up. Step forward the 'Virgin Manicure' straight outta Kyiv...
With less of a focus on bold colour and more on fine lines and geometric designs, it's simplicity is what makes it unique. Usually with a nude or barely there base, the look has a pure and innocent quality so it's no wonder it's become known as the 'Virgin Manicure'.ISLA recently travelled to the Ukrainian capital and headed straight to nail salon MVK to discuss the inspo behind the looks and of course get our nails did! We met with Yulia, one of the nail artists behind the trend and questioned her on why she thinks it has become so popular with her clients.
'The designs are almost tattoo-like - minimalistic, stylish and natural' says Yulia. We totally agree and love them for their amazing detail and for being super chic!
Yulia used to be an engineer which explains her love of lines and geometric patterns which she creates using her tool kit of pens, sticky tape and an airbrush. She takes inspiration from graphic art and looks to nail artists like Unistella and others from South Korea and Japan who she sees as the lead trendsetters in the industry.
When asked if MVK clients usually know what they want, she told us they often give her complete freedom to create whatever she wants - dream customer right?!
Have these minimal vibes got you craving your next manicure?!
