Say goodbye to the nude nails you're used to seeing on the catwalks and hello to sparkly masterpieces ready to steal the show.

Once kept simple and minimalist, nails were overlooked by design teams so as not to detract from the fashion on show. But more and more frequently designers are choosing to incorporate nails into their looks to pull together a strong collection aesthetic.

Our friends over at Hardeman set the trend in motion last year with the help of 3D extravaganza designer Nails By Juan. The abstract 3D nails intertwine with the clothes to create a kooky and quirky aesthetic.

Fashion icons The Blonds collaborated with nail Gods CND to create a Disney Villain masterpiece for their SS19 collection that took over 500 hours to create. “These villains use their nails to do their evil deeds” said CND co-founder Jane Arnold, “so The Blonds were looking for that dimension.”

CND crafted, sculpted, designed and detailed a set for each villain including Ursula-inspired tentacles made of gel that light up, green flames and horns inspired by Maleficent, and hearts, daggers and shards of mirror glass for the Evil Queen.

Hopping on the jelly nail trend, our favourite brand of the moment GCDS collab’d with Nails By Mei to pull out a summer set to die for on the iconic Sita Bellan. Think all things neon, cute lil gummy bears, jelly, glitter and smiley faces. This set stands out perfectly against the brand's typical luxe-look items, showing you can pair high end looks with fun and funky nails.
We’re loving the looks we’ve seen so far on the catwalks, and we’re so keen to see where designers will take this emerging trend. If you're feeling inspired by any of the looks you've seen, challenge us here at ISLA to recreate it. We'd love to work with you on your dream nails!
And don't forget to check back on the blog next week where we’ll be taking on the top styles of SS19 with our own nails...
